How Sendora Made Cross-Border Payments Feel Local

For many import and export businesses across Africa, slow bank transfers and fluctuating rates on existing fintech platforms kept shipments stuck at ports. Payments crawled through outdated systems, margins shrank, and uncertainty became part of doing business. That challenge became the spark for creating Sendora.

I set out to create more than a transfer app. The goal was to build a platform where business partners could get paid like they were next door and FX rates stayed locked until deals closed.

The Journey of Designing Sendora

From the beginning, onboarding needed to be effortless. A business opening Sendora for the first time should understand exactly what it could do and already be halfway to their first transfer within 90 seconds.

Most platforms hid their best features behind layers of navigation. We put Sendora's value right up front with invoice-based payments, FX rate lock, shipment tracking, and scheduling, like giving a business-class cabin tour before takeoff.

Payments on Sendora started with the invoice, not a blank form. Users simply uploaded it, and the platform pulled in all the details automatically. It was faster, cleaner, and free from the costly typos that had stalled deals in the past.

Control mattered. Sometimes businesses didn't want to send payment immediately; they wanted it to go out exactly when a shipment left the port. With scheduled payments, they could set the date, lock their rate, and stay focused on running operations.

The dashboard acted as a live command center. Smart cards displayed pending payments, upcoming payments, shipment tracking, and FX rate locks all in real time. No digging, no guessing, just one glance for the full picture.

One of the most appreciated features was FX rate lock. Once a rate was secured, it stayed fixed no matter how the market moved. It turned every deal into a predictable, stress-free process.

Why Sendora Isn’t Just Another Fintech

  • Invoice-first workflow (built for actual business ops, not just transfers)
  • Shipment tracking baked into payments
  • FX rate lock for predictability

The new normal

With Sendora, businesses sent payments with confidence. Shipments moved on schedule, rates stayed locked, and payments were confirmed — all in one place. The delays, guesswork, and last-minute rate shocks were gone. What once took days now felt as easy as paying a neighbor
